Out With the Old — In With the New…

Effective immediately, “Writing Help Monthly”, the newsletter I have been publishing regularly since late 2001 will cease publication and will be replaced by this very Blog – The Write Place.

Regular newsletter readers will realize where that Blog title came from. For the last couple of years I have been signing-off of the newsletter with “Remember, at Writing Help Monthly you’re in the write place.”

Well, from this point on, this is “The Write Place.”

Unless you’ve been hiding in the back woods for the past year or so you’ve probably read or heard about the latest trend sweeping the Internet… Blogs!

For the few of you who may not yet know, the term Blog stands for Web log. A Web log is simply a chronological series of postings on whatever subject the Blogmeister chooses to write about. An online journal, if you will.

If you’ve been following Blog stories in the media lately you will know that literally thousands of people have started Blogs on just about every subject conceivable. For many folks, their Blogs are “stream of consciousness” rants. For others, Blogs are a vehicle for expressing their personal and/or political viewpoints for everyone to see. You may have read about a few high profile firings when companies have retaliated for statements made by employees about the company on the employee’s personal Blog site. (Not recommended if you want to remain gainfully employed).

In the case of this Blog, as much as possible the postings will stick close to my main theme — practical writing help tips, tricks, advice, pointers, info and resources — similar to what I’ve been publishing in Writing Help Monthly over the years.

How will it work, you ask? I’ll explain, so keep on reading…

Very simple actually. This Blog site will always be online for you to visit whenever you wish to, at the following address:

http://writinghelptools.com/blog/

In addition to my ongoing series of regular posts, you’ll notice that the sidebar on the right-hand side of the window is full of writing help resource links to give you quick and easy access to the specific topic you may be looking for.

Whenever I post something new on this site I will send you a short e-mail advising you that there is a new posting online. Normally, I expect I’ll be making one or two posts per month.

So, keep your eye out for those e-mails because they will always be announcing the availability of some new writing help related information.

It’s actually better than the monthly newsletter because you’ll get new info postings “hot off the press”!

Oh, I almost forgot. A really COOL feature of Blogs is that you can post your own comments on any one of my postings. Just look for the “Comments” bar on the lower right below each posting. It looks like this:

Comments Bar

Initially I’m going to let people make “comments” without registering. We’ll see how that goes. So, at this point all you have to do to make a comment on a particular posting is click on the word “Comments” on that little “Comments” bar at the lower-right of the post.

That’s it folks! I hope you enjoy The Write Place!

By the way, I’m posting a recent photo of myself here so that you will be able to put a face to the name.

Yep, that’s me, Shaun Fawcett… in need of a haircut, but clearly in the “pink” of health!

Excellent concept, Shaun! We’re looking forward to your posts, especially suggestions on grammar. As for your pinkish face, I know Montreal in the winter and I’d say you’ve just been sunning somewhere south, like the Caribbean? (Oops: “sunning somewhere south” - triple alliteration. Sorry about that!)

aI really don’t know what I would do without all the information on letter writing. As a Scot living abroad, I find my lanaguage becoming “international” a synonym for “don’t really know how to say this correctly any more!”
You, Shaun, have provided the most valuable help for me in my courses and I really appreciate your keeping me “Korrect” in my English.

    A great resource.
